On my
first trip to Nicaragua I visited a small village
called Jicaro Bonito. That week we were playing with
the kids and I noticed quickly that something was
not right about them.
There
were many of the adults and the children without shoes.
One little girl stubbed her foot on a stick that was
protruding out of the ground and ripped the skin off
her small little toes. I declared that day that this
village would no longer go without shoes.
The next
summer I collected used shoes and took over 250 pairs
to that village. Since then God has supplied many
more each year. Now I am taking brand new pairs.
This
year I was able to purchase over 1800+ new flip-flops
for .$59 cents a pair and 900 of them will be distributed
to families who lost everything during Hurricane Felix,
and the other 900 will be given out by my team members
in July.
For the
cost of a soda you can help me purchase brand new
shoes for these families. A pair of shoes in Nicaragua
equals a whole day’s salary.
Shoes
for the Shoeless is a great project for all Sunday
School classes, Home School groups and a great way
to teach your children about sewing into people’s
lives.
If you
see shoes on sale, please contact me; I am always
in need.
