Tax Free Weekend

August 1 - 3rd is Tax Free Weekend this year.

As you are shopping for your childs school supplies can I ask that you use this time to teach them the gift of giving?

I have a small school in Coffadia that just started and their kids basically have nothing to learn with. If you can buy an extra this or that they would be grateful. There are at least 50 kids that go to this school.

I can use any of the following items;

#2 Pencils
Erasers
Crayons
Colored Pencils
Markers
Binders
Rulers
Composition Books (small ones)
Scissors
Personal Pencil Sharpener or a Larger one for the teacher

The Dollar Tree and Dollar Stores has great buys on this stuff. Walmart usually has good sales also.

I will be collecting this from now until my trip in December so if you pick up some things for me after I have left on my August trip just hang onto them and let me know you have them so I can come and collect them from you or you can drop them off to me.

Thanks in advance,

Angie

Adopt-A-Family Still Needs YOU...

I have 17 families sponsored so far and have 31 to go with only two weeks before I leave for Nicaragua.

If you have not sent in your sponsorship please do so as soon as you can.

My deadline was July 27th in order to give me time before I left but at this point I'll take money all the way up to August 2nd.

Let me share God's word with you on this matter.

Proverbs 11:24 NIV

One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

Proverbs 11:25 Message Bible

The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.

Email me and let me know if you are sending something so I can plan ahead.

Thanks to all those who have supported a family already. You will be abundantly blessed.

Power Ranger Toys

Tonight I had the most wonderful phone call I have had in a long time.

My little Oscar was released from the hospital today and when I called to talk to my friend Jimmy he was in his house right beside of him.

Since last July when I first met Oscar he was a very shy child. He has never ever been very outspoken to me until tonight.

Jimmy gave him the phone and out came "Hola Angie" How are you? I could hardly talk to him from the excitement in my heart and it was the same for him. He was talking to me with the so much happiness. It was a moment I won't ever forget. He has been so sick and to hear him talk to me like that was a true gift from God.

I asked him if he wanted me to bring him another Power Ranger toy and what color and out came, Blue, Black, White, Yellow, all the colors, he said with great excitement.

He was yelling the colors out. This from a boy who almost died just two weeks ago. It's so amazing to see God's power working in his life.

If your children/nephews/cousins have any Power Ranger toys they would like to send to Oscar, please email me so I can get them from you. I will need them by July 27th if possible.

If you see any on sale let me know that also.

Thanks so much and continue to pray for Oscar's health as without a kidney soon or another miracle from God his changes at life are slim.

God Bless,

Angie

Are you a Jesus "Potato"

Yesterday during my pastor's absence our youth pastor filled in.

I love hearing Pastor Paul teach. He's funny and he's real. There's not a lot of that "Holier Than Thou" stuff going on. He's not ashamed to show us who he really is and that makes me feel right at home.

He was talking about "Full Yet"?

The point of Pastor Paul's message was are we feeding ourselves daily?

He challenged us by saying for anyone who wanted to eat on Sunday and never eat again all week until the next Sunday he would buy their meal. Isn't that so true of most of us?

We go to church on Sunday and eat a full course meal and we make it last all week until we return again. If you have a Wednesday service and you go, you're just getting a drive-thru burger that night I bet.

I was really challenged by Pastor Paul because for my entire walk with the Lord I have had a hard time reading my bible. I don't like to read and it makes me sleepy so trying to read the Word is even harder since it doesn't make a lot of since sometimes. I am truly starving myself to death some days. How about you?

Are you getting the food (Word of God) that you need to fill your body with the knowledge that gets you through life? Me, I live on a Happy Meal most weeks but I can say I have been working on it a lot lately and doing better but I have a long way to go to get to that steak dinner every day.

For those of you who are eating a full meal daily, what are you doing with it? Are you a "Jesus" Potato? Do you sit inside your house day after day and do nothing with what God has feed you with or do you share it with others and use the knowledge he gave you to help others?

Have you ever thought about starting a neighborhood bible study or maybe take a baby Christian and disciple them and show them how to eat a full course meal daily?

Just something for you guys to chew on....

Thanks Pastor Paul for giving me the desire to eat more daily.

God Bless,

Angie

Prayer and Praise

This morning my father-in-law went to be with the Lord.

He was a young man (only 65) and had lots of years left but his body didn't agree. He had a stroke this morning and his body just could not hold on.

It's very sad for us because he was looking forward to having granddaughters since there are only boys our entire family.

Please pray for Terry's mom Phyllis because she is blaming herself because he had been sick lately and she thinks she could have done something to prevent this.

On the Praise side, 3 years ago while I was on a mission trip to Nicaragua my wonderful husband went on his own mission trip to his parents house and led them both to the Lord.

Ray is in good hands right now and maybe this will be what it takes to lead the rest of this lost family.

God Bless,

Angie

The Latest on Isamar

If you recall Isamar was scheduled to go to her dad's house on a trail basis over her school break starting on Friday.

I can honestly say that this was the saddest 4th of July I have ever had. I sit wondering all day if she was going to be ok on the 4 - 5 hour bus ride to Managua and was she going to have water (that girl drinks water like crazy), was she going to have a seat or would she have to sit in her dad's lap? Many thoughts went through my head that day.

I called her the night before and encouraged her to be a good girl and obey her dad and enjoy herself but honestly the entire time I wanted to say, "Just don't go, Isamar!!!" but I didn't I was really nice.

Today I called to check on Carmen since she is the one that seems to be hurt the most by all of this and I got a very chattery Carmen. She could not stop talking, on and on she went to my translator and within minutes I soon realized she was telling me that Isamar didn't go.

You can not imagine the excitement that went through me.

Apparently when Isamar's dad tried to leave Carmen and Isamar pitched a fit. Isamar cried the entire way to the bus stop and even while she was on the bus. They traveled about 1 1/2 hours to Chenandega and turned around, got on another bus and traveled back to Somotillo, Isamar still crying.

Isamar just could not leave her sister. She told her dad she did not want to go and did not want to leave her sister. He told the workers at the orphanage that he could not get her under control so he brought her back.

I am sad that Isamar and Carmen had to go through this but I won't lie, I am glad the experience was not the opposite for Isamar. Hopefully this experience will show the dad how important the girls are to each other. Just maybe, this will be what it takes to show him the girls need to stay together.

I finally got to talk to Isamar about her experience and she was very quite until I told her I loved her and I was sad she had to go through it but if she didn’t really want to be with her dad I was happy. Within seconds my shy little girl was excited and talking all about coming to live with us.

Please, please pray for Mi Familia (the DSS people) as they now have to make a decision about Isamar’s future. We are not sure what this means now but I can only hope it’s a point for our side.

God Bless to all,

Angie

Adopt-A-Family Project Continues

I have received money for 9 families so far and others have agreed to put out of the word.

If you do not feel led to help in this project at this time would you be willing to spread the word by emailing this pdf flyer to others.

Many of us know other people who attend mission minded churches that would love to help. Sending a email to a friend might just be your role in this.

God has who he wants to help change these peoples lives, are you one of them?

Thanks to all who have so far and thanks to everyone for praying for these people.

Simply email this link to your friends and family. www.thepowerofoneministry.org/adoptafamily.pdf

Adopt-A-Family

On Sunday our pastor preached on Make Us Great.

The basis of this was on serving.

He asked a question, "Do you love others like you love yourself?" What would your answer be?

In Matthew 22:37-39 the bible tells us to love the Lord your God will all your heart,.... but it also says, "A second commandment is equally important, Love your neighbor as yourself".

I had to think about that. Do I really love my neighbor as myself? Would I do for them what I want done for me? Would I give to them as I give to my family and myself? Would you?

What would happen if you started giving to others as you give to yourselves? If you were pumping gas and paid for the car beside you or were in the grocery store and noticed a woman searching for extra money, would you be willing to step up and pay for her groceries? These are some of the examples our Pastor challenged us with.

Now I am going to challenge you.

When we are serving the Lord we are at our best in God's eyes. We are acting out the most important commandment God gave us.

Here is your chance.

I am going back to Nicaragua in August to start a garden project in the village of Coffadia.

These families have to smuggle goods across the border, risking their lives in order to feed their children. They need a better avenue to earn an income and that project is much larger than I can do right now but what if we did for them what we can do for ourselves and gave them the ability to grow a garden and feed themselves.

They will need wheel barrows, shovels, hoes, and matics to do this. An irrigation system and seeds are also a must. I am checking on pricing today for the tools and it's not cheap in Nicaragua.

Would you be willing to sponsor a family and give them a chance to feed their children?

In return I will provide you with the following:

Receipts for the purchase of 1 shovel, 1 hoe and 1 matic. (Wheel barrows will be bought also but not for every family since the cost is so much)
Receipts for the purchase of seeds and the irrigation system.
Pictures of the family and their house, and children.
Their names and any additional information you would desire.
Pictures of the garden project from beginning to end
Pictures of the results.

With any project there are no guarantees. We can invest in them and the outcome is glorious or we can invest in them and they do nothing with the stuff. To avoid this I plan on holding them accountable before they get the equipment. They will have to put forth an effort to receive the products. In other words, be invested in the effort, not just receive a hand out.

I will require them to build a fence around the garden areas to keep out the animals and I will require them to carry the water every day and buy the fertilizer. This way they are able to see their efforts in producing the food and it not just be something we gave them. Don't you feel much better about a project when you have worked on it?

I just saw 12 young men come to know Jesus at this village last week; can you imagine the seed that will grow from those 12 men? We have an opportunity to serve and truly make a lasting difference for years to come with this project. Will you join me?

There are 48 houses in this village. In one house may be multiple families. For now I am only focusing on each house.

The cost to do this will be $150 per family. The wheel barrow alone will cost $80 - $100 so I am asking for enough money to buy several wheel barrows for them to share and the rest will receive their own shovels, hoes, etc. That cost will be around $65 per family.

Can your family give up pizza, eating out after church every Sunday or just splurging over the summer to help a family for $65?

Here are some suggestions on how we can raise this money;

Get your bible study group involved – with 10 people that’s only $6.50 per person.
Get your Sunday school class involved? With 20 people you would only need $3.25 a person.
Your extended family – with 30 people that’s only $2.17 each
An office pool – with 65 people it’s only a $1.00 each

Together we can change these peoples lives for the cost of eating out a couple of times in a month.

We don't have to do this, We GET TO...

There are 48 families on this distribution list and about 20 more who read it. If all of you pitched in every family would receive the needed tools to feed their families.

Will you join me?

I would need the money by July 30th. That gives you two pay periods, 4 Sunday school glasses and many other opportunities to turn dollars into crops.

If you can't do the entire amount would you be willing to do something?

Over half this community is not saved. What a great way to show them Jesus.

To donate please send your tax deductible check to:

Attention: Adopt-A-Family

Please pray for this project. If you can't help maybe others can. Tell them about it. Get others involved.

Let’s watch what God does with this project. Email me and let me know I can count you in.

God Bless,

Angie
